Get in the Van Productions is a Seoul-based nonprofit theatre organization dedicated to making the performing arts more accessible, inclusive, and representative of the diverse community we serve.

Our mission is to expand access to theatre and create meaningful opportunities for artists and audiences who have traditionally been underrepresented or faced barriers to participation in the performing arts. We produce contemporary theatre that brings diverse voices and perspectives to the stage, with a particular commitment to stories and artists from communities that have historically received limited representation.

We also seek to make international theatre more accessible to audiences in Korea by producing works from abroad and reducing linguistic and cultural barriers to participation. Our productions are presented in English with Korean-language accessibility whenever possible, creating opportunities for Korean and international audiences to experience theatre together and encouraging cultural exchange through the arts.

Beyond our productions, Get in the Van Productions works to build an open, community-centered theatre environment by providing opportunities for performers, directors, designers, technicians, translators, and volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds and levels of experience to participate in the creative process. Through performances, educational activities, community events, and other arts programming, we aim to encourage greater public participation in theatre and strengthen connections among the diverse communities that call Seoul home.

As a nonprofit organization, our activities are carried out in furtherance of these purposes. Revenue generated through productions and other activities is used to support our programs, future productions, and continued community arts activities rather than distributed for the private benefit of our members.

겟인더밴 프로덕션은 서울을 기반으로 활동하는 비영리 극단으로, 누구나 보다 쉽게 공연예술을 접하고 참여할 수 있는 환경을 만들고 다양한 사람들의 목소리가 무대 위에서 함께할 수 있도록 노력하고 있습니다.

저희는 그동안 공연예술계에서 충분한 기회를 얻지 못했거나 제대로 조명받지 못했던 사람들의 이야기와 목소리를 무대에 소개하고, 다양한 배경을 가진 예술가들이 창작 활동에 참여할 수 있는 기회를 넓히는 것을 중요한 목표로 삼고 있습니다. 이를 위해 동시대의 다양한 시각과 경험을 담은 작품을 발굴하고 공연합니다.

또한 해외의 우수한 연극 작품을 국내 관객들에게 소개하고, 언어와 문화의 차이가 공연을 즐기는 데 장벽이 되지 않도록 노력하고 있습니다. 영어로 공연되는 작품에는 가능한 한 한국어 자막을 제공하여 한국인과 외국인 관객 모두가 함께 공연을 즐길 수 있는 환경을 조성하고, 연극을 통해 서로 다른 문화와 경험을 나눌 수 있는 기회를 만들어가고 있습니다.

겟인더밴 프로덕션은 공연 제작뿐만 아니라 배우, 연출가, 디자이너, 기술 스태프, 번역가, 자원봉사자 등 다양한 사람들이 경험이나 배경에 관계없이 창작 과정에 참여하고 함께 성장할 수 있는 열린 커뮤니티를 지향합니다. 공연과 교육 활동, 커뮤니티 행사 및 다양한 예술 프로그램을 통해 시민들이 공연예술을 보다 가까이에서 접하고 직접 참여할 수 있는 기회를 넓히며, 서울의 다양한 구성원들이 예술을 통해 서로 만나고 교류할 수 있는 장을 만들어가고자 합니다.

저희의 모든 활동은 이러한 비영리 목적을 실현하기 위해 이루어집니다. 공연 및 기타 활동을 통해 발생한 수익은 구성원에게 분배하지 않으며, 공연 제작과 프로그램 운영, 향후 작품 개발 및 지속적인 지역사회 예술 활동을 위해 사용합니다.

“Emma” is a modern, feminist take on the classic novel where the clever, educated, and energetic Emma Woodhouse finds herself nearly going mad with idleness in a time when ladies like her are expected to sit quietly at home. In a desperate attempt to banish her boredom, she soon finds herself entangled in a web of her own matchmaking machinations. This hilarious adaptation uses comedy—sometimes bordering on absurdity—to breakdown convention and expectation, and it will certainly keep you laughing along the whole way.

《Emma》는 제인 오스틴의 고전 소설을 현대적이고 페미니즘적인 시각으로 새롭게 풀어낸 코미디 작품이다.

똑똑하고 교양 있으며 넘치는 에너지를 가진 엠마 우드하우스. 하지만 여성들이 집 안에 머물며 점잖게 지내기를 기대받던 시대에, 그녀의 재능과 활력은 마땅히 발휘할 곳을 찾지 못한다. 무료함을 견디지 못한 엠마는 주변 사람들의 연애와 결혼에 메치메이킹을 시작하고, 자신이 짜 놓은 중매 작전 속에 점점 더 깊이 빠져들게 된다.

재치 넘치는 유머와 때로는 엉뚱할 정도로 과감한 코미디를 통해 사회적 관습과 기대를 유쾌하게 비틀어 보는 이 작품은, 끝까지 웃음과 즐거움을 선사한다.

Holly Lana Wright has a long history working in theater, including a BA in Performing Arts, and most recently directed Get in the Van's inaugural production. She has a passion for textual analysis and loves bringing what's on the page to life so that more people can enjoy and engage with theater.

Jessica Batul

Jessica has performed on the main stage with Get in the Van and is also a trained improvisor. She excels at managing all of the moving parts that need to be balanced behind the scenes in order to make a production successful, making her a valuable asset both on stage and off.
