BRANCH

Black Researchers and Advocates for Nature, Culture, and Horticulture

Heaven Bradley, an undergraduate studying plant biology with a minor in horticulture at Michigan State University, founded Branch to address a vital need: creating a supportive and empowering community for Black students pursuing plant-related careers. As the only Black student in many of her classes, she experienced firsthand the challenges of isolation and difficulty of finding peers within her major. Thinking about other students who might feel the same way, BRANCH was envisioned, a space for connection, mentorship, and belonging for black students in green spaces.

With the dedication of its executive board, BRANCH grew from an idea into a thriving community built on leadership, outreach, and support. Their commitment and hard work led to BRANCH becoming an official Registered Student Organization (RSO) at MSU in Fall of 2025.

Today, BRANCH exists to empower Black students pursuing plant-related careers by fostering community, creating opportunities, and amplifying voices that are often underrepresented in green spaces. Through mentorship, outreach, and collaboration, Branch provides a platform for students to grow academically, professionally, and personally, while ensuring they feel seen, supported, and celebrated throughout their academic journey at Michigan State University.
