Hi, I’m June—a storyteller, a dreamer, and a firm believer that writing should never be confined to a single box. Life is full of twists, turns, and unexpected moments, and I love weaving those elements into my stories.

I’m a single mother to a beautiful teenage daughter who inspires me every day. She’s my greatest joy, my biggest supporter, and the reason I strive to create worlds filled with hope, resilience, and adventure. We share our home with Lizzy, our lovable, lazy cat who I’m convinced is Garfield reincarnated—minus the lasagna obsession (though she’s working on it).

When it comes to my pen names, J. E. Spears—my maiden name—is reserved for the series I create, while June Calva is where my standalone, cross-genre stories come to life. Because to me, writing is like people—it shouldn’t be forced into a single category. We’re made up of different layers, emotions, and experiences, and the same goes for the stories we tell.

At the heart of it all, I write because I love it. Because stories connect us. And because there’s nothing better than getting lost in a good book.

There’s nothing quite like a weekend on the lake in a small town. My daughter and I love camping under the stars, escaping into nature, and casting a line into the water, waiting for the perfect catch. There’s a certain kind of peace that comes with the crackle of a campfire, the lull of the waves, and the quiet hum of the world settling down for the night. These moments—are when I put down the Quill and focus on what's important in life. Family!
