Hey y’all! I’m Alejandra, a proud Mexicana working toward my dream of becoming a physician and making healthcare more inclusive and accessible.
I grew up in Mexico and moved to the U.S. at 14, which opened my eyes to health disparities and sparked my passion for helping underserved communities. After graduating from Colorado State University with a degree in biomedical sciences and a minor in ethnic studies, I became a post-bac fellow at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, where I focus on improving pediatric care in Latin America.
This past year, I dedicated myself to studying for the MCAT and overcoming challenges like securing accommodations for my disability. Having navigated this process, I’m passionate about advocating for others to ensure they receive the accommodations they need and deserve. It wasn’t easy, but it taught me resilience and the value of persistence and self-advocacy. With Latinas making up less than 3% of physicians in the U.S., I’m determined to change that. I’ve worked to uplift my community and promote culturally relevant healthcare through programs like The Body Project and Familias Fuertes.
